So, Adobe's thinking of scooping up Semrush for $1.9 billion, huh? That's the rumor swirling around, anyway, ever since the Wall Street Journal dropped that little bomb. Semrush stock soars after WSJ reports Adobe nears $1.9 billion acquisition - Investing.com Shares jumped 67%? You bet your ass they did. Everyone's looking for a quick buck.
Semrush, for those blissfully unaware, is all about "search engine optimization." Translation: helping businesses game Google's algorithm so they can shove their crap in your face more effectively. A noble pursuit, said no one ever. And Adobe wants it? Adobe, the king of bloated software subscriptions and creative lock-in? This is a match made in… well, not heaven. More like a deal brokered in the deepest circle of marketing hell.
They're supposedly paying $12 a share. TWELVE. When it closed at $6.76 on Tuesday. Someone's getting seriously overpaid here. I mean, come on!
Before this whole circus, Semrush was worth a little over a billion. Now, suddenly, it's worth almost twice that because Adobe's got the hots for it? Makes you wonder what kind of backroom deals are going on, doesn't it? Are they thinking that by combining their creative suite with Semrush's SEO tools, they'll create some kind of unstoppable marketing juggernaut?
Maybe?
But honestly, I don't see it. Adobe already has a stranglehold on the creative market. Do they really need to buy their way into the SEO game? Seems like a desperate move, like they're afraid of something. Ahrefs vs Semrush has always been a thing, but is Adobe really gonna be able to beat out the competition? I don't know...

And what about the users? Are they gonna get screwed over even more? More subscription fees? More bundled crap they don't need? I wouldn't put it past Adobe.
Let's be real, any "integration" between Adobe's existing products and Semrush is going to be a usability nightmare. Remember when Adobe bought Macromedia? Flash, Dreamweaver... remember how long it took them to actually integrate that stuff, and how clunky it was even after they did? We're talking years of pain and suffering for designers and developers.
And what about Semrush's pricing? Are they gonna jack that up too, once they're under Adobe's thumb? I mean, Adobe ain't exactly known for their affordable pricing plans. They're gonna squeeze every last penny out of their users, that's for sure.
I'm already picturing the "Adobe Semrush Enterprise" plan, costing more than a used car and requiring a PhD to operate.
Offcourse, maybe I'm being too cynical. Maybe this will be a great thing for everyone. Maybe Adobe will magically transform into a user-friendly company that cares about its customers.
Nah. Who am I kidding?
This isn't progress; it's just another example of a big corporation swallowing up a smaller one to eliminate competition and consolidate power. It's the same old story, and frankly, I'm sick of it. Semrush had potential. Now, it's just gonna be another cog in the Adobe machine.
